To make the public operational system more efficient and
effective, e-governance as an effective tool, is the need of
the hour. However, to make it accessible to common users is
an uphill task.
This article focuses on the infrastructure issues, financing
models, implementation issues and a few successful
e-governance projects in India. It also tries to analyze the
fact that despite several efforts and huge investments,
finding a way to narrow down the digital divides between
urban and rural people is still a major concern.

E-Governance is the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by
mobilizing government resources, and utilizing the internal information
resources by the government employees with the help of citizens’
acceptability to the changes taking place to provide better services to them
(P Panneerval 2005). It can also be defined as the application of electric
means in the:
• Interaction between government and citizens and government and businesses,
and
• Internal government operations to simplify and improve democratic,
government, and business aspects of the government.
Role of E-Governance
E-Governance, in simple terms, is an integration process of technologies and
the process of distributing and communicating that information to the
desired audience in order to make them more informative and participative
